So... What's next?
You'll inevitably get asked this question sooner rather than later while in high school or college.
So what is the next step for you? What are you going to do with the rest of your life?
First of all, why are we as a society so obsessed with picking one thing to do for the rest of your life until you die. Most of us have many talents and interests and pursue many avenues in the course of life. You do not need a career to define you and your self-worth. If you are anything like me, you will cringe at the question and then you'll realize that you actually have NO idea what you want to do with your life or the next step you should take and then you make up some b.s. answer that will satisfy what they want to hear. Usually when you are in school, you can just say "oh, I'm just focusing on my studies right now" and the storm of questions will quell. Once you are gradated, everyone just expects you to have everything figured out and have already secured a corporate job that you will stay at the rest of your life.
Welllll I am here writing this now to say that all of us who do not have the answers to anything and who are just trying to survive, that it is okay. Its okay. It is okay to not know what to do after schooling. We spent the first half of our lives in this mode of eating, breathing, sleeping, school, repeat. It is hard to figure out what you want to do to make an income and be happy. That is the ultimate goal... to find something that you are happy doing and get paid to do it. But if you are not there yet, its okay. You will arrive in that space.
A recent grad who is learning about the world and then posting about it on her blog.
